Editorial: College Fundraising Has Become Pivotal

I am a disabled veteran living on disability payments of $133/month. This time last year, I was homeless, living in my truck in the Walmart parking lot with my cat and my dog. Through the help of the Homeless Veterans program, I was able to get connected with resources at SFCC to go back to school, and I started taking online classes in the Business Management program. To do homework, I used free Wi-Fi in the McDonald’s parking lot, and I showered at the school Mon – Sat. My first quarter was a struggle, but with the help of the SFCC Veterans Resource Center and the Goodwill program for homeless vets, I was finally able to get stable housing and got connected with food stamps and the campus food bank.
