BECU and Our Running Start for Careers Initiative is a Finalist for the Strong Communities Award!

You can help our students receive $15,000 of support!

The Federal Home Loan Bank of Des Moines (FHLB Des Moines) recently announced that the Running Start for Careers Initiative has been selected as one of three Strong Communities Award finalists competing for $15,000. BECU, a FHLB Des Moines member, partnered with the CCS Foundation to apply for the Strong Communities Award.

The Running Start for Careers initiative raises scholarship funds for students earning a college trade degree and high school diploma at the same time at CCS. In other words, a local high school junior could earn their high school diploma while they gained the training and certifications necessary to become an automotive or electronics engineering technician.

“We strongly believe in Running Start for Career’s mission, which has enhanced the lives of the community. I urge the public to go online and vote for this important project to win this year’s Strong Communities Award,” said Steve Hauschild, BECU’s Spokane Market Leader.

This annual award honors the projects people, and programs that promote local small business growth and retention. Winners will be determined through a five-day public voting period beginning on October 5 and ending on October 9, 2020.

This project is a great example of the tremendous impact that Running Start for Careers has made.”

FHLB Des Moines challenges members of the eastern Washington community to cast their votes in favor of the Running Start for Careers project by visiting the Strong Communities Award homepage at www.fhlbdm.com/award. The voting serves as a component of the selection process to select the winners. Winners will be awarded $15,000 each, and runners-up will be awarded $3,000 each.
