Sasquatch Celebrity - Betsy Lawrence

Betsy is English Faculty at SCC and has been a board member of the CCS Foundation for nine years!

Betsy in the Sasquatch Celebrity borderWhy do you choose to donate to the Foundation?
I have been a full-time English instructor at Spokane Community College for nineteen years and am retiring soon. I am an alum of both SCC and SFCC, so the Community Colleges of Spokane has a special place in my heart.

I have been financially supporting the Foundation since I was hired at SCC in 2005. When I filled in the new employee paperwork, I happily signed up for my donations to be taken directly from my paycheck.

I have been a donor throughout my career and will continue to give to the Foundation after I retire because I know my donation goes directly into supporting our students. I see how hard they work and the struggles they overcome; I believe all CCS employees should give what they can to help these amazing people become confident students who move on to the degrees and careers they dream of.

Fun Fact: If you could meet any fictional character, who would you like to meet?
If I could meet any fictional character, it would be Katniss Everdeen from The Hunger Games. Sure, I have two degrees in literature and should pick The Wife of Bath, about whom I wrote my master's thesis, but I still would go with Katniss. I would visit Panam with her, practice archery, go to a fabulous salon to have weird things done to my face and hair, use my mad paddleboarding skills to get us out of danger, and find a way for us to both to win the games.

Sasquatch Celebrity is a monthly feature that introduces the CCS staff who support the CCS Foundation's students and programs.
