Foundation Donors Are Helping to Meet Workforce Need

According to The Washington Roundtable, there is a large need coming in WA for workers with postsecondary education. By partnering with donors, the CCS Foundation is poised to help meet this huge need.

The Need:

  • "Job Growth: State job growth is projected to be 12.8%, far above the projected national average of 2.8%. Emerging economic trends could push this figure to nearly 16%.

  • Job Openings: Washington will see an estimated 1.5 million+ job openings over the decade, including approximately 640,000 openings for new jobs and 910,000 from retirements.

  • Unparalleled Opportunity for Skilled Workers: 75% of projected job openings will require postsecondary credentials. Bachelor’s and advanced degrees will be in highest demand — necessary for 45% of job openings.

  • Credential Shortfall: Washington faces a projected shortfall of nearly 600,000 credentialed workers over the decade, including 301,000 with bachelor’s and advanced degrees, 67,000 with associate degrees, and 228,000 with certifications, apprenticeships, and other training credentials."

The Solution:

While tuition for a year of full-time coursework at SCC or SFCC is around $5,000, our students often struggle to make ends meet. Of full-time students eligible for financial aid, 55.7% were Pell eligible, meaning their potential ability to pay for college was low enough that the federal government offered extra financial support.

We believe that all students deserve access to a quality, affordable education, which in turn empowers access to sustainable economic opportunities for students and creates a pipeline of talented individuals to meet the region’s workforce needs. Our work is to provide students with access to resources so that they can realize their potential. And our donors partner with us to make that happen!

Here are some highlights of our donor's support to make education possible:

  • Fund 40 students in the Tools for Tradespeople pilot program. Machining students – who normally need to spend $5,000 on tools to train and enter their career field – get to train with and keep Foundation-provided tools upon graduation.

  • Provide scholarships to students across both colleges, including full-ride scholarships.

  • Support students’ basic needs thank to emergency aid funding.

Our donors help make potential possible every day. And their work will help meet the need for those 600,000 workers with postsecondary education!
