Meet our alum, Angela Boncz!
Angela Boncz is the founder and CEO of Specialized Pet Solutions, a business that makes custom orthotics and prosthetics for animals across the United States.
She also happens to be an SFCC alum.
Angela got her start in orthotics and prosthetics (O&P) at Spokane Falls Community College. She graduated in 2002.
“I wanted to start a career with purpose,” Angela explained. “I learned many skills in the field after SFCC to create one-of-a-kind orthotics and prosthetics for animals and humans.”
After graduating, Angela worked with human clients, developing O&P. It was actually once she got a puppy with an injury – the equivalent of an ACL tear in people – that she started her animal O&P journey.
“I was able to transition what I learned in school and what I learned in the human O&P field to animals.” That’s when she created a brace at home and healed her dog’s injury without any surgery.
“I knew I could do this for other animals,” Angela explained.
First, she started by “dabbling” at home, as she described it. Years later, she adopted a three-legged pony; she made a prosthetic for him, when before he was using a wiffle ball bat.
“Pretty soon he was running and bucking,” Angela described.
15 years have passed on her animal O&P journey, and she’s supported dogs, horses, cows, camels, goats, sheep, and even a lemur! Angela owns a small farm south of Spokane where she lives with her adopted animals and runs her business. She gives 5% of her earnings to rescues and sanctuaries.
That’s not her only generosity of note. Angela also supports CCS alumni, offering discounts to anyone who graduated from Spokane and Spokane Falls Community Colleges.
As she looks to the future, she hopes to continue building on her current success: overseeing her business and hiring and training new employees who can build one-of-a-kind devices for animals all over the world.
